To Negative “Nelly’s and Ned’s”
I’ve watched and read the exchanges back and forth now since I was let go back in October. Not only have I bit my tongue and smashed my fingers not to comment on this board I have searched this site and others for a J.O.B.
I find more and more people are asking for Free services in their talent search. I have always brought more than being a jock to the table. I’ve increased the numbers anywhere I have gone by just being myself.
Believe me, I thought long and hard before posting on this board because I find that many, not all, have a habit of ‘blowing smoke” when it comes to how much they know about the average ‘Joe’ or in my case the average ‘Jane’ who has been let go. When it comes to cuts, it really doesn’t matter about your numbers, or your talent. The ‘suites’ are all about going with the numbers of the bottom line. Please don’t take this as a bashing of what they (the suites) have done in the economy we are in right now. They are doing what they think is the right thing to do. I have a prediction myself and that is Radio as we know it will be changing over the next 6 months! To those who find yourself in the same position as I am of being unemployed, know that you are not alone and as long as you have a passion for the business, it will return to the way it was before all the corporate mass buying happened. If you are discouraged and want to leave the business then do what you must do to survivor! It is the few that post on this board who think they know it all which this next statement is for:
Find the rock which you crawled out of and please return! There are several of us who truly have a passion beyond words for the business we are in, or in my case currently out but looking to return. Think back to the real reason you got into radio… now if it was a reason like getting a ‘piece’ or becoming ‘popular’ then I’m not talking to you. But if it was to make a difference in someone’s life or in the community, hell maybe even the world! Then you are the ones who have lasted all these years because of that passion! There are several ‘Golden Rules’ I’ve lived by in all these years and they are: “Treat others like you want to be treated”, “Respect others the way you want to be Respected” “Share ideas with your co-worker to improve the team” and “Karma always has a way of showing you what you’ve done right or wrong”.
To those still looking for your next gig… Good luck and keep a positive outlook on life! May you get what you want out of life and be blessed along the way.
To the people who only have negative things to say… May you also get what you want out of life and be blessed along the way.
Live, Laugh and Love,
Dee Stevens
